The Orphan Train in Michigan

Historian Al Eicher will be sharing his research on the Orphan Trains and the passengers who arrived in Michigan in the mid 1800s. Operated for three-quarters of a century, “Orphan Trains” were used to transport orphans and homeless children from crowded cities in the eastern U.S. to more rural areas in the Midwest as part of a welfare program that preceded the foster care system in America.
