**FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE**
*Severe Weather Update & Recovery Efforts in Cheboygan County*
Cheboygan, MI – The Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Office Emergency Operations Center (EOC) wants to update our community on the recovery efforts following the recent severe weather that impacted our area.
As of today, many secondary roads throughout the county remain blocked due to debris and downed limbs. Our dedicated crews are actively working to clear these roads; however, please be patient as we focus on restoring access to major trunk lines first. Your safety is our top priority, and we encourage all residents to stay off the roads unless absolutely necessary.
Power restoration efforts have seen limited success, with some portions of the county now receiving electricity. We ask that residents remain mindful of others’ fuel needs as only a few gas stations are operating at this time. If you must use a generator, please continue to conserve fuel whenever possible in order to assist our community’s recovery efforts.
With power lines being restored we urge the public not to remove or go near down power lines. Please report down power lines to the appropriate energy company.
We want to remind everyone that emergency shelters remain open for those in need of a safe place. If you or someone you know requires shelter, please visit the designated locations where we have volunteers and resources available to assist.
Salvation Army is supplying food services will be operating today April 1st in their parking lot located at 444 S. Main St., Cheboygan MI 49721.
In the event of an emergency, please call 911. If you encounter difficulties reaching 911 due to the loss of communication services, we encourage you to respond directly to your nearest fire department, EMS facility, or law enforcement agency for assistance.
Additionally, we want to alert residents that another round of severe weather is expected to roll through northern Michigan on Wednesday. We urge everyone to remain vigilant, stay informed, and prepare accordingly. Monitor local weather alerts and make sure you have an emergency plan in place for your family.
Cheboygan County Sheriff’s Office highly suggests if residents have an alternate location outside Northern Michigan that has power, heat and running water to please consider relocating for the time being until resources are restored.
Your cooperation and consideration during this challenging time are greatly appreciated. Together, we will work to recover from these events and ensure the safety and well-being of Cheboygan County residents.
