The City of Cheboygan is currently accepting applications for an Operator for the Department of Public Works.

Duties include, but are not limited to:

• Operate equipment for the Department of Public Works – will provide training.
• Maintain City Streets, buildings, and properties.
• Repair and upgrade the drainage system including culverts and ditches.
• Enhance the appearance of the City.
• Bridge repair and replacement.
• Assist in mowing City properties.
• Work jointly with other Departments within the City.
• Other duties assigned by the DPW Crew Leader, DPW Director or City Manager

Required skills:

• High school diploma, or a combination of GED training & experience is required.
• Must possess or be eligible to obtain a current and valid Michigan Department of Transportation Commercial Driver’s License (CDL). City will pay for the training, physical exam, and CDL license fee.

The position is full time, year-round. The starting wage will be $19.90 per hour and $20.50 after six months. Additional pay premiums available depending on additional licenses held or earned. A competitive benefits package (including Medical, Dental and Vision coverage, MERS retirement plan, 11 paid holidays & generous earned time off program) are included with this position based upon the current approved union contract.
