Chief of Police


The City of Cheboygan is seeking qualified applicants for the position of Chief of Police to effectively lead and manage the police department.  Cheboygan is a rural northern Michigan community 14 miles south of Mackinaw City MI.

Candidates need to have a bachelor’s degree in criminal justice or administration or related field with a minimum of 5 years experience in police administration.  Preferred candidates also should have graduated from the FBI National Academy or an accredited School of Police Staff and Command.  Candidates must be licensed under MCOLES, have a valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record and pass a comprehensive background, drug screen, understand the job qualifications and meet the pre-employment standards.  Salary is commensurate with experience and comparables.

Meeting Schedule Change for Parks and Recreation Commission

Please be advised that the Cheboygan Parks and Recreation Commission has voted to have a change in schedule of its regular meetings. The Parks and Recreation Commission will now meet on the 3rd Wednesday of every other month at 5:00pm. The next meeting of the Parks and Recreation Commission will be September 21st, 2022 at 5:00pm.

The City of Cheboygan is seeking proposals from qualified firms or individuals to provide legal services. Applicants must be currently licensed to practice law in the State of Michigan.  Applicants are required to have a minimum of ten years of experience in municipal law.  Strong background in labor, contract, land use, zoning, tax, and real estate law is necessary. Please be advised that the Cheboygan City Council meeting scheduled for Tuesday, July 26th, 2022 has been cancelled.

Notice of Public Hearing Cancellations

Notice is hereby given that the Cheboygan City Council is CANCELLING the Public Hearings scheduled at its Regular City Council meeting on June 26, 2022. Those Public Hearings were regarding the following:


  • An Ordinance to Amend the Code of the City of Cheboygan by adding Chapter 158, Article XV, of the City Code: RE: Land Divisions/Combinations Other Than by Plat.
  • An Ordinance to repeal Chapter 155, Article XV of the City Code RE: Historic Resources and Enact a New Chapter 155, Article XV of the City Code. RE: Historic District.


These Ordinances were adopted after proper notice was given at the July 19, 2022 Regular City Council Meeting and will be in effect 20 days after their adoption.
